Abstract

Drought is a slow-onset natural disaster that significantly impacts environmental sustainability, agricultural productivity, water resources, and socio-economic stability. This study examines drought as a disaster by analyzing its causes, types, and consequences, along with its increasing frequency due to climate variability and human activities. The research highlights the role of factors such as irregular rainfall, temperature rise, deforestation, and poor water management in intensifying drought conditions. It also explores the short-term and long-term impacts on food security, livelihoods, and ecosystems. Furthermore, the study emphasizes the importance of effective disaster management strategies, including early warning systems, risk assessment, sustainable water resource management, and community participation. The findings suggest that integrated approaches combining scientific techniques and policy interventions are essential to mitigate drought risks and enhance resilience. This research contributes to a better understanding of drought as a complex disaster and provides recommendations for sustainable management and preparedness.
