Asthi Sharir, or the skeletal system, is a fundamental aspect of human physiology, providing
structure, protection to internal organs, and enabling movement. In Ayurvedic medicine, the
health of the bones, referred to as Asthi Dhatu, is vital for overall well-being. Ayurvedic texts
emphasize the use of medicinal plants and herbs to support and maintain the strength of the
bones, with a focus on balancing the bodily doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha) that influence
bone health. This paper explores the role of medicinal plants in strengthening Asthi Sharir,
examining their biochemical properties and therapeutic uses. Herbs such as Ashwagandha
(Withania somnifera), Guggulu (Commiphora wightii), Shatavari (Asparagus racemosus),
Turmeric (Curcuma longa), and Haritaki (Terminalia chebula) are identified for their
osteoprotective, anti-inflammatory, and bone-regenerative qualities. These plants work
synergistically with Ayurvedic principles to not only maintain but also enhance the structural
integrity of bones. The article reviews traditional uses of these plants, modern scientific
validation, and their practical application in strengthening the skeletal system. By adopting a
holistic approach combining plant-based remedies, diet, and lifestyle adjustments, individuals
can achieve better bone health and prevent conditions like osteoporosis. This paper ultimately
aims to present a comprehensive understanding of how plant-based therapies contribute to
maintaining a healthy and strong Asthi Sharir.
